Description

Once upon a time... The French Cantata or Louis XIV at Twilight
Lysandre Châlon, bass-baritone
Christophe Rousset, harpsichord and direction
Les Talens Lyriques

At the beginning of the 18th century, music opened itself to new emotions. After the death of Louis XIV in 1715, there was a loosening of austere rigor, giving way to a lighter spirit, almost a return to courtly love. The arts, and music in particular, were then imbued with Italian influences, while preserving that delicate French sensibility.

With Couperin and Montéclair, we move away from Lully's pomp and circumstance to explore a more intimate, more tender expression. Their works celebrate a love that is both refined and sincere, where virtuosity always remains at the service of emotion. This program reflects that era: a time when people relearned to love freely, in music as in life.

Program :

François Couperin (1668-1733)
Ariadne consoled by Bacchus, cantata (1708)
Sonata The Visionary – Trio sonata (1726)

Michel Pignolet de Montclair (1667-1737)
The Abduction of Orithyia, Cantata, Second Book (1713)
