Description

The lives of working women intersect, intertwine, and respond to one another...
"Working Women, Memories Under the Skin" immerses us in two parallel stories, which share the common thread of portraying the intimate lives and daily routines of working-class women from the Drôme region at two different points in the 20th century. The action unfolds simultaneously in two time periods: we follow the journeys of three women working at the Valence cartridge factory during the First World War, and those of three women working in the shoe industry in Romans in the post-1968 period.

As the text unfolds, weaving together these different life trajectories, we perceive not only the differences but also the resonances of these women's circumstances and intimate lives. At the end of the play, we shift into a new space-time with the appearance of the "modern woman," who gives voice to these invisible women in our own era.

An original, evolving and inventive scenography allows the actresses to move from one era to another with fluidity, and to draw the parallel threads of these intertwined destinies.

The original "live" musical creation by Chloé Serme-Morin, aka Caïman, subtly accompanies the interweaving of these anonymous lives.

With this project, which combines artistic approach and historical research, the Cie des Lisières is a winner of the call for projects "Memories of the 20th and 21st centuries" supported by the DRAC and the Auvergne Rhône-Alpes Region.
