Between theatre and song, Hmar Lil is the story of Asmaa Samlali, a young refugee.<p> Asmaa Samlali, a young queer refugee, arrived in France shortly after the release of Pokémon Go. Like other refugees from war-torn Syria, South Sudan, and Afghanistan, she searched for her place in the world. Stuck in her tiny, unrentable maid's room, she dreamed of being Pikachu—an alter ego capable of traveling through space and time and reliving memories. Asmaa Samlali sings in Amazigh and Arabic about her attempt to build a new life, accompanied by Zoé Kammarti's music and live translation. Despite the countless obstacles in her path, she prepared for a drama school audition and devised rituals to heal her wounds.</p>
