Description

In Rommel's Asparagus, the life story is at the center of the theatre; history is told or sung by characters more real than life.<div> A desire to delve into the roots of our cultures, to keep the memory alive. The mission of the theatre as a place of witness is thus further strengthened.</div><div><br></div><div> The man, his cap on his head, finished drying the dishes, humming to himself. The woman entered, wearing a blue blouse, a package in her hand. Inside were eggs, apples... "Take these home with you." The man opened a bottle of cider while his wife sat down at the table. Louis and Yvette, farmers from Normandy, had lived through the war that had separated them.</div><div><br></div><div> Louis spent five years as a prisoner in a Berlin "Stalag," where he learned obedience. To "escape," he sang while washing his clothes. During this time, his wife, left alone with their young son, ran the farm and found ways to make ends meet. When her husband returned, she retained the power she had built up during his years of absence. As for Louis, he continues to sing in the fields for his cows.</div><div><br></div><div> For an hour, they recount and sing about their war, from mobilization to liberation. The anecdotes, the songs of the time, the fears, the joys... The power of the evocation brings the past to life, gives it substance, and immerses us in a defining period of our century.</div><div><br></div><div><br></div><div> With this show, we engage and bring together an audience spanning several generations. It evokes something in each person, sparks curiosity, and reminds one of our elders of a certain "zazou" style... As for teenagers, what could be more concrete than a life story to illustrate a period studied in class?</div>
